Maria Vanessa de Sa earned her postgraduate degree, a Masters of Architecture in Urban Design (2007), from CEPT University, following her completion of a Bachelors of Architecture degree (2002) from Goa College of Architecture. She has garnered extensive experience as an architect and urban designer in various firms, with a notable tenure at The Bodhi Tree in Bangalore. In 2018, Vanessa assumed the role of Convener at the Charles Correa Foundation, dedicating two years to leading and directing research on city-related issues. Simultaneously, she has cultivated her passion for the arts and emerged as a promising independent artist. Vanessa has showcased her works in multiple group exhibitions, including the notable Serendipity Arts Festival (2019), in Panjim. Adding to her creative repertoire, Vanessa collaborated with writer R. Benedito Ferrão to publish the graphic novel "The Destination is the Journey" in 2017. This novel, centered around the life of renowned Goan artist Vamona Navelcar, received acclaim. Vanessa's graphic design contributions can also be found in the journal "Festive Studies," a collaborative effort with R. B. Ferrão and Angela Ferrao, among other creative Goan experts. Their joint publication, "The Uninvited Host: Goa and the Parties Not Meant for Its People," was released in 2023. Further showcasing her versatility, Vanessa, alongside Fernando Velho, directed the graphic segment of the book "Song Sung Blue." This book features a compelling narrative and art by Savia Viegas. Vanessa is currently based in Panjim, where she indulges her penchant for doodling and enjoys capturing the essence of the Goan landscape through her drawings.
